Looking to being doing a conversion very soon but not sure which engine to go for. I've heard one of the engines is better in a way but need abit of help.

gsi has less sensers i think so less to go wrong if you look at it like that, but there older than sport engines so maybe there better to go for, if you get a decent engine and look after it it, why shouldnt it be reliable

i think if you look after an engine it should be reliable, try driving the car the engine came out of then you know how strong it is and if you need some work done or not,

if your getting a sport make sure you dont get the 1.6 16v out a astra, very similar but it'll be a x16xel not a x16xe. it'll have smaller cams therefore less bhp...
and the c16xe gsi is quite hard to find a decent one now.

Id say the gsi mate, my 1.6 engine was gash and had full service history started over fueling badly used a tenna just driving to end of my path, never known anything bad with gsi c16 tho

No difference lol, Its just engine to engine. GSi suffer from AFM issues, later sport engines suffer from egr issues.
The same basic engine is the same, so they suffer from the same issues, Stem seals, piston rings.
Just go for a later X16XE, No need to change the lower inlet when fitting a powerbox then, Newer engine, No expensive afm to fuck up.
