Bought a 5 door auto as a daily, with a 1.4 X14XE under the bonnet - bonus !
I got it cheap with suspected hg failure, but im unsure.
The engine runs fine, pulls well and doesnt missfire atall.
The coolant overflows and bubbles when the cap is left off, when the coolant cap is on it just gets loads of pressure build up.
i removed the thermostat and noticed it has made a difference, i have also bled the system.
The waterpump isnt leaking and there isnt any mayo in the oil cap.
anyone hazard a guess on what it could be ?
It easily uses a full header tank per day, although the temperature gauge doesnt overheat

If it's using water and there are no leaks i'd have thought it would be the hg. Are you getting any steam out the exhaust?

hi buddy take the water bottle top off start it up if the water flys out id say hg
