I don't venture in geek day often so apologies if this is a question that ahs been asked a million times before but I need phone recommendations.
Contract is due for renewal on Sept. 30th; I wouldn't have normally bothered so much but I fucked my phone last night, it fell out of my pocket at work and stayed outside in the rain all night
Anyhow, choices seem to be:-
- iPhone 4 16gb which will cost me £140 one off payment on my existing tariff
- Samsung Galaxy SII which will be free on my existing tariff
- HTC Sensation which is free on my existing tariff
I need it to:
- Make calls/texts (obviously)
- Internet browsing as I live in a house I'm renovating so don't have any internet there
I'd quite like an app that tracks progress when I'm out running or cycling so if someone could recommend one, i'd be appreciative,.
Not fussed about music too much but it would be an added benefit.
Thoughts/opinions/other phone recommendations??

Any of the phones listed tick all your requirements. It depends if you want to be in the cool club with an iPhone mainly, otherwise I'd just choose whichever one you like the look of. The other choices both have android so they're not much different in terms of operation.

One of the second 2 instead of paying £140 for a phone which will be obsolete next week, both are technically better phones also.

what's this 'android' I keep see being bounded about? I realise its an OS but what does it actualyl give/mean in leyman's terms.
Sorry to be backwards, I'm stuck in the 80's with my gadgets etc.

You can get apps and stuff same as an iPhone.

Android is simply an OS that was developed by Google. Its a very stable and fast platform as you can expect, has loads of free apps and if you were a bit geeky you can mod the heck out of them.
There is very an little an iphone can do that an android handset can't and visa versa.
I think now, its 100% down to which phone you like the most. Personally I'd go for the HTC Sensation as Samsung install a lot of their own guff that you would just have to remove. Plus I think the sensation looks nicer.

I also want it to relatively future proof. I have a Samsung Tocco Ultra at the minute, 2 years later and its outdated, can't get any apps that it supports etc etc. Are the above going to last 2 years as I'll be tied into a 2 year contract

iPhone 4 is being superseeded in a few weeks time, but being an iPhone it isn't going to be unsupported.
Again, unless something major happens the android handsets will be the same. I have had my desire for nearly a year now and I think you can still get it. Certainly don't feel like its outdated yet.

I would wait to see what happens with the apple in the next month re new iPhone as it may male the older one cheaper. Also let you compare it to the new HTC vigor when that comes out. Also I bet my life on it that you can find your same tariff cheaper if you browse online places like buymobilephones.net etc

Threads like this prove the ultimate fanboyness.
What happens if they release a phone shaped like a turd which doesn't work and costs £300 a month for 50 minutes and 3 texts?

I'm not big into phones/gadgets. I'd rather buy 1980's stuff but for a phone I need something better for personal and business use - hence this thread. I'm asking what would best suit my requirements as I simply don't know

Edit - I convinced my wife to get one the other day as she's not really into phones, now she's on it all the bloody time!

Wait for the iPhone 5 to come out, then get an iPhone 4 cheap. I imagine the 4 would suit you just as well as the 5 if you're not bang into the latest tech and just want a nice functional phone. Apple will still support the 4 for a good few years yet
