Ok, so again, I can't get a phone contract (i'm guessing due to the fact I failed to pay one 7 years or so ago :mad (Even though I got a mortgage and credit card in the last couple of years)
So gone for the missus' name again, which should hopefully go through.
Had phones4u call me to break the news, and he suggested going with Sim Only on contract from Orange, as they only do a little credit check and most people get accepted, and also after 3 months of paying that you are able to upgrade to a proper contract.
Basically what I want to know is, can I just get the £7 a month sim only from Orange and never use it, using the contract in my missus' name instead, with the sole intention of building up my mobile credit rating with Orange? Or do you think they'd notice/care that it hadn't been used?

That is exactly what I did. Got refused for a contract phone so got a sim only with orange for £15 a month I think it was for 500 mins unlimited txts and 500mb internet. Then after 3 months went in and upgraded to £30 a month with free HTC Mozart, 600 mins, unlimited txts and 750 Mb internet and unlimited btopenzone.

Yeah, i'm on the electoral role.
Sounds like that could be a good option then.
I've applied for the HTC Sensation XE with the missus' details on a 12 month contract. So if that comes off in a year i'll try again in my name, if that fails i'll go for the sim only option then, at least then i'll only have a 1 yr old phone for the sim only thing! And will hopefully be able to upgrade 3 months later anyway

Orange are the harshest on credit checks. Tmobile give anyone a contract.

The missus was accepted for the phone, so that's 12 months sorted anyway!
Will try and remember this thread in 9 months time and sort out the sim only thing!

I can also confirm that going down the SIM only route (Simplicity on O2 in my case) and then a few months later applying for a normal contract works.
