Usually try and refrain from making these kind of threads as everyones tastes are different but the folks are looking for a new tv and I've been out the loop for a wee while when it comes to this..
Looking for 50", I presume most decent tvs come with 3d capabilities now and smart features?
Just looking for some opinions..

Personally I wouldn't bother with 3d but that's just me.

Yup. We got a Panasonic G30 at the end of last year and the picture is incredible imo.. But it seems to be the last of the non 3d Pannys..

Can't really go wrong there, when it comes to screen quality.
However Panasonic really are falling behind when it comes to design, and I personally couldn't live with a Panasonic in the living room.

Richer Sounds, whilst great for potentially picking up deals, wouldn't be my first choice for viewing TVs. Head to a decent HiFi/Cinema place, like Sevenoaks, otherwise JL tends be decent for a retail place.
If you have to go to Comet/Richer Sounds or the likes, get them to reset the TVs and make sure when you're comparing they're running a dedicated source (they have a habit of stringing multiple TVs from a single source).
Worth having a gander on the AV Forums as well.
