dpf usually clears on a motorway blast. extra fuel injected into exhaust to burn away soot.

However, under extreme conditions such as repeated short runs or particular driving styles the DPF warning light may illuminate. This is not a fault but an instruction to the driver to carry out the regeneration procedure which involves driving while maintaining an engine speed of 2,000-2,500 rpm for a period of up to 15 minutes or until the light goes out.

dpf light usually looks like an exhaust or cat with small circles in it. if its just the eml, its probably something else. ( emissions warning can come up for something as trivial as a glowplug down )

Get it read using vcds and see what fault comes up. Usually it comes on for some pointless reason so clear it and see what happens.

If it's dpf fault you can force it to do regeneration with diagnostic equipment. If you don't have any separated the exhaust slightly at the joint after the dpf, this usally forces regeneration too
