Hi... having our bathroom done up atm, the complete works. Got a heated towel rail (our first experience with one)

The problem is, it doesn't actually heat towels.
It takes about an hour for it to warm up (on electric) which is pretty poor anyway imo, is this normal? Then it does eventually end up too hot to touch, however even with towels being on there for several hours, there is no heat on them. A very slight warm over a small section, which dissipates in around 5 seconds or less.
In my opinion, this is simply no fit for purpose, and we should be entitled to a refund or a replacement. Now looking further on the B&Q website, it seems this one...

Has a higher wattage, so this should make a difference? Whilst I'm at it, I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me the difference between watts and power, as B&Q quote different values for both.
Problem is, obviously the original one has been fitted (how else to test it!?) although you don't actually make any holes in it etc. so it should be able to be returned 'as new'. Unfortunately our plumber broke the box up that it came in... do you think this is going to be a problem or do we stand a chance?
I'm not if I'm just over-reacting, but would go as far as reporting this product to trading standards, at the very least to warn off other potential customers. As it stands, it's a very pretty, £150 standard towel rail that doesn't provide any warmth, i.e. the job it's meant to do

it doesn't need to be in a box. just take it back with the receipt and explain the problem.
b&q are pretty good with returns.

Towel warmers are normally rubbish.
If you use the same element in the second one, it'll do exactly the same.

An average towel isnt known to be the best heat retainer anyway, if its warm and you take away the heat it will cool quick anyway
Cheap towel rails have no where near the same output as a normal radiator either, cheap electric ones are even worse
Im glad they are going out of fasion, people always expect the same amount of heat from something well smaller that is full of gaps. they are shite

Heated towel rails are more for drying them then just heating them.
If we put wet clothes on a radiator at the same time as the towel rail, the stuff on the radiator always dries a lot quicker.

so its too hot to touch but because your towels arent warm there must be a problem with the rail?
maybe there is a problem with your towels and you need to return them?

Yes maybe I needed self-heating towels.
Oh well have given up as most people say; they're just shite anyway. Also, our new shower is about as powerful as a gnat pissing on you... it's going well!

That's water pressure , but I'd take your shower back with the towel rail , either that or return the house as its clearly not fit for purpose

Yeah, someone told me they were better because of instant heat... after doing some research I see that's not actually the case  my own fault for not looking into more because it was actually bought.
However, plumbed in a new one today, and so far the heat is much improved. Will give it a test later for the pressure as well.

I have a full height plumbed in towel radiator and it kicks off serious heat and works really well; half the problem with short ones is that you throw a damp towel over it and cover all of the bars and then all the energy is absorbed by the towels

Anyway my plumber said perhaps the old unit was faulty, got the new one in and whilst it's not brilliant, it's a massive improvement over the first one.

It's guaranteed to go wrong (the fitting, not the unit itself)
