I need to simulate a 5-20w load on a 230v circuit, resisters I can find that will do 5w have a limiting voltage of 120v so that rules them out. The solution needs to be less than £5 per unit. It needs to be small, fitting in a 100mm x 100mm by 50mm box. I don't want it to generate much heat so that rules out a larger power resister.
Any links, options?
Cheers.

My rudimentary calculations say about 8kohm for a 5ish watt load at 230v?

There look to be loads that would do the job though unless I'm missing something?
Is 100x100x50 a backbox type size? that's massive?

Just realised that doesn't specify AC volts which might be the problem.

It's not a back box, it's an generic adaptable box.
That one looks fine though I'm concerned by the full power operating temp of 70'c, mind you it'll be a non continuous supply, on and off periodically for up to 5 minutes at a time.
Cheers John.

Looking at the description of applications, I imagine it'll be AC.

Try it, it'll soon go bang/pop the fuse in the plug/trip the RCD at the board if it's not meant for that

You just need to choose popular resistance values.
For example
5.29w load = 10k resistor with 0.023a current
11.25w load = 4.7k resistor with a 0.049a current
Suitable 10k for the 5w application

Suitable 4.7k for the 10w application
