Dad has two Hotmail accounts, one for his business and one for personal. He is trying to run both in Outlook 2010. It should have been running fine for sometime, but it keeps throwing up an error that it can't authenticate the accounts (I know the details are correct as I've logged in using a web browser).

The error is this one: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2874206

It seems that Microsoft have washed their hands of the issue.

But does anyone know a proper workaround? Incidentally manually clicking Send/Receive All doesn't seem to work for Dad.

Do you have another device with 2010 (or another client for that matter) to replicate and test with?

I would never use a hotmail account for Business use. Who do you call when you need to restore an e-mail or if you need to track if an e-mail has come in or gone out.

That said, have you tried setting up the Outlook Profile again?

You talk some bollocks Andrew.

Hotmail or just using a hosted webmail client with your own domain you won't get those options anyway.

I'd love to ring 1&1 and say I need an email restoring. Yea right!

I use exchange with 1and1 I wouldn't bother phoning them to check if an email has been sent out.

Tried everything suggested other than another 2010 machine.

Ended up putting Live Mail on as a temporary workaround.

Considering a proper @akbrickwork.co.uk address via Vidahost as a proper solution. And it does look more professional too.

Unbelievable businesses however small still use hotmail addresses when a more professional looking setup is peanuts.

Put that domain onto office365 and have a proper exchange account that will sync up nicely on all computers and phones for £35 a year or whatever it is.

I've done it so many times now I could do it in my sleep. Shout if you need a hand...!

365 costs less than a 123-reg pop3 account these days. You will however be locked into a 12 month contract.

Think he has that but I'll check it out.

He seems to be managing fine with Live Mail.

Although with one of the accounts you can't delete emails
