i was driving along to B&Q and i saw some smoke coming outta my bonnet, i pulled over and it was the wire for my spot lamps, the whole lenth of the wire had set on fire, i'v had them on the car for 4 months and this has never happened to me so far, what could of been the cause???

same thing happened in my mates car, he hadn't fitted them very well and the bonnet had been rubbing the insulation off the wires then at some point they touched and ...well fire and smoke

i thought i read that aswell "i was driving through a BBQ and the pork was cooking nicely but as i went to change into 2nd the sausages went up in flames"

probably cos the wiring isnt thick enough. rewired my headlights using standard bulbs cos it was loosing 2 volts due too heat, rewired using thicker wire and they worked much better

U didnt use a thick enough gauge of cable to supply power to the lamps so the cable has heated up and burnt. You could either run larger cable to the lamps from a high current switch and then to the battery or run a small cable from the switch to a relay and run a large positive from the battery to the relay and then to the lamps.(thats safer)
