hi ive got a M reg corsa sri 1.4 16v and the engine is very tappy.
it's done 52,000 miles which is'nt bad.
I have had a new cambelt and tensioners and the pulleys put in ive put new spark plugs, ht leads and changed my oil (back to vauxhall's own 10/40semi synthethic)as I was using castro magnetic which was crap i was told!!
still the engine is tappy my mate suggested it could be the waterpump any one have any ideas what it could be. I would be very greatfull

Could be the lifters. Mine rattled a lot on my old sri (8v) on startup in the morning, but stopped after about 5 mins. Does it make the tappin sound all the time while driving?

Will be the lifters. Mine was the same at around 40K so it went back to Vaux as i had a warrenty on the engine. £760.00 to replace them!!!!!!

sorry to sound stupid what is the bottom ends, if there gone how much to replace do you think . how can i check there gone.
I just changed the oil 2 days ago and filled it to the max on the dipstick 3 1/2 litres with the vauhall oil.

bottom ends such as your crank shaft could be mash up... and u check the head and cam???

i had whole new engine build for 400 my dad dun mine for me.. could be expensive depending on what its gonna involved cos i had to have the crank shaft grinded...

woah this could cost me alot.... a mate of mine suggested that i get some tappet cleaner from my local halfords do people think this is worth doing The tapping is not very loud like a G reg ford fiesta 1.1 but it still there thanx for the advise more is welcome

get it seen to..... cos if it is the bottom ends youll do more damage then its worth...

kerry......whats wrong with putting 3 1/2 litres of oil in thats how much the sump take is'nt it? I done an oil change drained the sump complety and started again 2 days ago and now it full.

what kind of noise do the lifters make when they are on the way out?
i've got the same car as wilsie and when i start mine in the mornings it taps to fook - is that what lifters sound like ya?
mine sounds like a hammer hitting a lump of metal with some force......

hammer hitting metal!!! sounds like bottom ends that one does...
is it jus me or is it the month of corsa's going wrong or sumthing ?? - everyone seems to have a problem of sum sort!!

mine taps - like tapping noise... not hammer, some times goes later on - but I was told the 1.2 16v engine is a very tappy engine anyway... (known for making that noise)

if its a solid knocking, ie a hammer on metal type sound, it sounds more serious than tappets, maybe ur crank, bottom end.

soz mine only sounds like that when i start it in the morning, goes after about 3 seconds.... just lubing the head up with oil is what i was told, can't see it being the crank or the bottom end.
besides all XE engines do it when they start from cold

oh if its only 'tapping noise' then it most probably the hydraulic lifters on startup.
