i've got a set of 16's with et 45. 6.5 inches wide, thinking of lowering it 50mm maybe 60mm. the wheels have no tyres, so i need to get some. What size am i best going for? 195/40/16, 195/45/16 or something different. Im not hot on the subject of widths of tyes, so i dontt know what width would be best.
cheers

195 tyre width would be fine, espically since you've got a pretty good offset. Plus there should be no problem lowering 50mm using a 45 profile tyre since again your offset is close to 49 and your wheels are only 6.5 inch wide, so there should be plenty of clearance even with the 45 profile, not much point in paying considrably more for 40 profile tyres when the 45 should do the job.

I bought a set of 4 195/45/15 tyres for my 15 inch alloys, it looks very low even with 45's and i paid about £155 - £160 for fitted and balanced.

With 40 profile tyres you are also more prone to easy wheel buckels, plus the car feels like a cart its that solid.

And as matter of facr, i've had and seen in the past that even 50 profile on 15inch alloys look fine, no prob. But thats when the car had a 60mm drop, don't know what a 50 would look like otherwise. Most ppl here in N.ireland and south use 50 profile even with 16s because the roads are in such bad shape, at least there's more tyre to absorb pot holes so less chance of buckling the wheels
