I've seen lots of people say this, but I can use anything on 3G I've never had the phone say I need to use wifi because of the amount of data. I'm on an official voda contract

Vodafone and Three customers can use iPlayer over a cellular connection. Other networks can't.

I can on my E51 - it streams through Realplayer though. WiFi or which ever data point you want.
Typical iPhone-ness, you need to get an app before you can do stuff But the streaming apps do let you stream using any data point

Go Here:

http://bbcstreams.com/

Copy and paste the stream you want into the app and then listen. You have to enable an option in the settings for it to stream over a cellular network, as it's set to wifi only by default...
