hi folks, wondering if anyone had an ideas?

i acquired a 1.8t spark 156, and when revving the engine it struggles to get past 4k, and sounds like death. i have changed the oil, and it has had new plugs to cure a misfire, but it seems like the engine is tight and just wont rev past 4k without sounding like its going to explode.
