1080i uses 1920×1080, but it's interlaced and not a progressive scan?

Yes, they both use 1920x1080. Dave is just talking rubbish confusing the situation.
The difference between i and p is interlaced or progressive, as said. They both use the same resolution.

Get a lot of ghosting on my 1080i tv - drives me mad. But not mad enough to put my hand in my pocket and get my wallet out

except that does not always work. Many non 1920x1080 screens will state in the specs they accept 1080p - doesn't mean you get to see all of it though.

I really can't even be bothered with this anymore. To me, if it says it displays at 1080p then that's that, it will display 1920x1080 pixels progressively.
