. . .I've started a thread about this before, but want to get it sorted once and for all.

Is this like to be the IACV bare in mind the Engine Management Light ISN'T ON.

Is there anything else this could possibly be? I've heard people talk about a 'coil pack', but I have no idea what one is etc?!

Is it beneficial to clean the IACV (the sprung part) with something such as carb cleaner? Is carb cleaner the right thing to use?

Any help would be appreciated. Also, with the revs dropping so low and the idling being very lumpy, could this cause any other trouble?

unplug it, hold it out in front of you and spray a load of carb cleaner of it until it runs clear

I take it I have to cover up the plug where it connects to the car wiring loom?!

I can't see cleaning it making a difference as its a sealed unit anyway.

If the motor in fooked in the icv, spraying brake clear is gonna do fook all.

What about the sprung bit that works along side the throttle cable?

Do does it sound like the IACV, as I don't want to rule out anything else?

Check your fuses. My moneys on that its a yellow one thats blown (cant remember its amperage!)

fuse? yeh prob is the icv, you wil have to get the stepper motor reset at vauxhall aswell proberly.

Stepper motor?

I know I can reset the ECU by leaving the battery disconnected for more than 1 hour, however not sure how my alarm will react

Joe - I guess not.

Been emailing LMF Vauxhall via eBay today (who actually trade as 'VauxhallpartsUK') and they have non-Bosch/GM IACV's that they never have problems with and are warranted. Might give one a go.

I've also read on here about a leaky breather pipe & something to do with a vacuum?

Could be that, give it a quick check over.

Yeh stepper motor is the motor in the icv

You get crank case vacum, and if there is a leak more air gets in to the engine via the rocker and makes the engine idle rough.

See near the throttle cable to the right there is a pipe going to the top of the throttle body, thats the crank case breather pipe.

The bit that goes from beside the 3 bolts in the round plastic thing to the rocker cover?

The bit circled in green?




And how do you know if it's leaking etc?

what have you tried already? no point going in with a big fix if you have tried the small ones

Nothing, hence why I've posted on here

I don't want to spend out on a new ICV and then have the trouble of that being calibrated to the ECU, if it is simply a pipe that is split or something

You don't calibrate a new one to the ECU, just fit it and start the car.

See if that has any holes in it, if it doesnt, must be the icv, what does it do?

right then first treatment which worked for me and others who i have passed on my wisedom to is the following.

the ICV needs recalibrating. scary? no! disconnect the battery, wait an hour this clears the memory. reconnect, go for a "normal" drive

the ICV is a constantly adapting unit reset is the first option, then if that doesnt work move on to repair/replacement
