Right thought i would show you all the coffee table im making for the gf for when she moves into her new flat!

She asked me to make here one, thinking i would use Pine or some other cheap wood!

Nahhh if im doing it im going todo it right.

So £108 of Kiln Dried Oak Later

Im going to be joining it with Festool Domino's (as strong as mortice and tenons)

Hopefully will be awesome and i might see if i can use this as a sample and maybe make them to sell!

Updates to follow

You used the Dominos before?

I made a bookcase out of some 3x1 and 4x1 oak that was ordered in error (should've been ash ) a few years ago. Was gonna t&g it but got lazy and biscuited it instead. It's held perfectly though. Only thing was I wanted to make the back out of 6mm oak MDF but we didn't have any in so I made it out of solid boards, it ended up so heavy I couldn't even get it in the van! I'll stick some pics up later.

I've never used them either, Festo keep sending me leaflets with them in and they look interesting but in typical Festo fashion the machine is about £650

Jesus christ £924 for the XL You'd have to be using it a lot for that to pay.

Bugs me that no one is allowed to discount Festo too, it is great stuff but a lot of the time it's not worth 2/3 times more than "normal" brands.

Aah I see.

Always fancied getting into turning. I did a bit at college but it was all pretty standard stuff like spindles, table legs or seeing how small you could get it before it broke.

A bloke I used to work with had a lathe in his shed and made some really nice bowls, he'd spend hours every night whittling away at stuff, drove his mrs nuts!

My apprenticeship was 3 years yeah, mainly 1 day a week but we had a few block release in the 2nd year. Wood turning wasn't part of the course, I think I'd just finished my project early and the tutor let me have a go on the lathe.

I always found college to be a waste of time. I got such a good training where I worked I already knew all the things we were doing at college anyway. By the 3rd year I was making windows and doors for the tutors foreigners
