Its not far off the mark TBH. The Galaxy S3 was very similar priced when it was first released.
Contract prices it is not discounted as much as others but SIM free its much of a muchness

oh the iPods are really nice! would be cool to see some colour in the phones.
im sold on the design of the new phone just not the potential size of the screen, i think my 4 is perfect size. however with the iphone 4 i hated the design and it wasnt until i played with one in store and was blown away by the screen that i bought one on the spot

hmm looks like the iPhone 5 won't work with my kenwood head unit as it uses analog audio out not the digital. GRRR

what do you have, dock connector cable?

Yeah its dock connector cable but this breaks out into USB plug (for control) and two 3.5 jacks, one for audio and one for video. Both of these are analog signals. The lightning to 30-pin connector does not support passing of any analog signals
Hopefully some chinese guru will come up with a cable with a built in DAC or something

or just buy a phone that does stuff without having to bend over backwards to make it compatible that should work out the box, just so you can own something that says apple on it
the lengths people go to just to own an iphone

Feel free to point me in the direction of the other phone that integrates so well into the Kenwood 7240 head unit. AFAIK no-other unit has the same capability with the head unit as the iPhone does. Android units don't thats for sure so please do tell......

but also, if you were to do what steve suggests your docks and accesories wont work at all so using an adapter is better than replacing everything

But it'll work though
And i suspect the new lightning port has 'authentication' for accessories, unlike the previous dock that worked around using resistance for accessory detection, so Apple will have far stricter control of what's allowed, what isn't and license accordingly which will automatically add Apple 'tax' to the price.
Lightning might support the option of changing a few of the ports to line-outs but you might be better off waiting for headunit manufacturers to start producing lightning compatible headunits.

I think as long as companies develop using the USB interface then it will work fine, There is a higher cost in doing this but thats just down to having to use your own DAC rather than just using the one in the iPhone/iPod. It should not increase the cost by that much shown by the fact that many systems already do work this way.

been using it for 15 mins or so and havent found any issues (hopefully you wouldnt do in the final build anyway).
as I mentioned earlier, 3D isnt available in the UK.
Theres a few small changes, but nothing massively noticable.

Do the Apple maps offer themselves as a suitable replacement to TomTom?
