Not everyone is buying £500 quid iphones though, even poor people have £40 a month contracts, whether they get a decent phone with that or not.
You can get a 4 for mega cheap or a 4S for cheap now, so not only higher end phones.

iPhone price is also held artificially high buy apple because they can. What was an S3 on launch day? Apple basically have a 350 day long launch day.

My galaxy is 27 a month free phone. Lad at work pays the same for his 5 but had to stump up 300 upfront for the phone. S3 can be bought outright for 447

supply and demand, nothing artificial about their prices, yes their fucking expensive, but i'd be interested to see the bill of materials for an s3 vs and iphone 5 and their respective retail prices at launch

It is definitely artificial, I'm not saying that's wrong, that's what any high end brand does.
The bill of materials is only a fraction of the cost when it's brand new, probably costs them a fiver per phone by next year.

5 is meant to cost even less. Must be those poor quality black surrounds that keep scratching

That price when it was launched proves my point even more tbh. It doesn't cost £300 in R&D, hence artificially held up, because they can.

like i said, i'd be interested to see the BOM for an s3, i bet its less than the $180/190 an iphone 5 costs and still had a launch price of £500. probably less to manufacture too, as they would use own factories

Jon, you seriously think android handsets sell more because people prefer thee OS over iOS.
Half the people won't even know what OS is on the phone, they will buy it because for every iPhone they have 150 android handsets to choose from at less than half the price. The OS won't even come into it.
Imagine if you could get a brand new iPhone on contract for free at £15.

So far its only been on upgrades but I got a 64GB for free on Voda on a 12 month contract and will be paying £36pm, slightly more but i think it will have more memory than the S3 you get will have and will also trade in for more in 1 years time so effectively the same I would say

Trade in thing is already starting to go down, helped along by more being sold.
The 4S is worth less than the 4 was, 5 will go down again.

its all the sub £100 pay as you go phones as well. if you could get an iphone for £50 outright id guarantee ios would outsell android.

What about the people spending a lot more who buy android instead of a comparable iPhone? Why does the same not hold for them Lee?

iPhone 5 trade in us going down? Bizarre you'd say that the day CEX say they will pay you 30-40-50 £ more than they retail for depending on model

I got £320 for my 4 just before the 4S release
I got £300 for my 4S just after the 5 release (could have got slightly more if I sold it before but was not sure if i was going to)
Prices pretty consistent to me.
Galaxy S3 has been out about 3 months and trade in is already down to around 240ish. I'm guessing it would be down to £200? by the time the S4 comes out so thats around £100 less value than the iPhone drop. The S2 is down to less than £160
