If genuinely broken and not user error then I would say that's pretty bad yes.

first one replaced under warranty, reports of several returned units with the same fault of losing all sound completely off the loudspeaker, both had very poor battery life though and both seemed to crash alot in apps

So you still had 2 broken phones then so not indicative of what you get with a working phone.

You have a fatally flawed opinion so it doesn't count. You have clearly had faulty hardware. Like me saying I don't like them because the display model in the shop didn't work.

You can form a good opinion on quality control, it's obviously not very good. Apple aren't that much better though, going through boxes of phones to find an unscratched one.

My first 4S also had completely shocking battery, I didn't base my whole opinion of the phone on that.

scratches or fatal faults? the OS just isnt as smooth, it still feels like its made by alcatel in 1999 and would probably melt in your hand, i base my opinion on having had both phones and in a better position to compare, the novelty of widgets wore off quick aswell

I haven't got an iphone 5 so you are correct in that respect, you are better placed to comment on that.

You still had a broken phone. Even with the samsung rubbish in place, it's still as smooth as iOS, it can't not be, it's brilliant hardware.

iPhone 4 battery barely lasted 5 hours, proper shit.

I'm physically amazed that the iphone 5 gets battered from about 7am till aound 10pm and only needs a charge at that point

What usage are you getting Alex?

Last three nights I've taken a screenshot and its been showing around 4 hours 30 mins usage, 15 hours standby and 25% remaining yet seen people with massively better stats than that.

So

Useage 4.5hrs
Standby 9.5hrs
Remaining 53%

vs

Useage 4.5hrs
Standby 15.5hrs
Remaining 24%

Doubt another 6 hours standy would use 25% battery in which case yours is better
