when adjusting the gear lingage is it 100% necessary to put a new plug in the adjuster hole?

ermmmm u mean the hole were u put the 4.5mm drill bit?
feck i dont think i even put the plug that was in there back in
lost it someware when i was doin the job.

when vauxhall did mine in my nova they didnt and it was fine

how do u get the plug out? in the haynes manual it looks like its a plastic one, but mines is metal. it also says 'extract', which i wud think means pull out. any ideas?

lock a pair of mole grips on the end of it, then lever the grips off with a screwdriver against the box.
