as posted before i have changed the valves and the gasket on my 1.2 8v engine because the timing belt went.Changed the distributor cap and a new battery.Had the ecu tested and the alternator was fine.Car was up and running perfectly. But there was a loose earth on the alternator which made my battery die.
Car Now wont start at all,it will turn over but There is no spark,no Fuel at the carbaretor,Exchanged the coil.Took out fuel Pump and wired it directly across a battery and it didnt work. The Battery Light is coming on when im starting the car?wondering why
Just really baffled to what it could be,Car as i said will turn over but there is no spark but it worked fine prior to the battery change. As my car is a single injection engine, there is no crank sensor so thats ruled that out.
Here is what we have tested:
ECU-Passed
Alternator-Passed
Wiring
Fuel Pump relay has got power
Please could some help cause were really stuck
Thanks

check battery voltage again, the check for voltage drop across alternator/starter, etc...
also another cheeky way of doin somethin is, take the pipe off that goes into the airbox or into the airfilter, and spray brake cleaner in it as sum1 is cranking it over, sometimes it might just need that little jump to get it to work, thats what i did with mine.
i replaced the head on my 1.2 8v as i snapped the belt during some high jinx in the local industrial estate, put the head on built everything up but it wouldnt start, gave it the brake cleaner treatment and its still going today, albeit not in my possesion tho

Does the diagnostic light stay lit while you are cranking the engine or does it go out?

yeah it was running fine till the battery died becasue the alternator wasnt charging the battery, this problem we think has been sorted due to a misplaced earth but now there is no spark at all

you have put the coil to distributor wire back on yeah? and there is a rotor arm under the distributor cap?
also did you replace the fuel pump that doesnt work?
i know there simple things but very easy to over look to...

I have a 1.2 8v and I had the exact same problem and it was a blown fuse that was stopping the fuel pump from working.
If the car is turning over I don't think the problem could be battery related.
I think that it's worth getting a new fuel pump as it seems to be the only option left

Thats the scary thing, its looking more like a new fuel pump ,wud that cause the batery light not to come on in the dash and for the plugs not to spark?

If the fuel pump doesn't work there is no fuel to make the sparkies spark.
Look at it this way;
For the car to start you need petrol to ignite. If there is no spark it could be several things stopping it.
1. There is nothing to ignite (i.e petrol)
2. There is no spark there which could be HT leads, spark plugs, and all things connected to those (dizzy cap, rotary arm etc).
Or it could be your battery.
If you know that all those things that create the spark are working and we know the battery works as the engine turns over then we need to check anything connected to the petrol pump. You could have a blocked fuel line or no petrol.
You know that the pump doesn't work as you connected it to a battery and it didn't work. Therefore you need to change that anyway.
I hope that makes a bit of sense :S
