The ammeter measures current flow (read power).
To get it working correctly, you have to run ALL the power for the car through it.
This WILL give problems eventually.

Ammeters are ONLY really suitable for older cars with a generator, unless you get onewith a REMOTE SHUNT (bit that actually measures the "amps").

Stick with a voltmeter!

Hey matey

I have a voltmeter in my toy. I have mine connected to the ignition switch. Normally, it'll sit at about 13.5V. When I turn on my lights, it'll go down slightly, then as I wind down the power windows, it'll go down a bit more etc. So I'd guess it'll move around a bit if all your stereo stuff is in too.

Hahahaha, mate, you might as well be speaking to me in Chinese. I've got no idea about electrics. I took it to an auto-electrician and had them put it in.

An ammeter won't be much good if you're drawing a lot of current through a stereo, my experience of them is they just swing about and hit the sides with every bass beat. Last about 5 minutes going from end to end four times in every bar
