Are you after the duration and lift of standard cams?
Which 1800 engine? X18XE1? X18XE? Z18XE?

the z18xe/x18xe1 engines
x18xe1 and z18xe are the same, just different management/fly by wire
yes, just woundering if x16xe cams would fit in....
lift and duration

X18XE1 specs are as follows
241 degrees, 8.45mm lift
They are quoted to fit the following engines
X14XE
C16XE/X16XE
X18XE1/Z18XE
all with the same part number for the replacement cams.
If nothing tickles your fancy, we can get the standard ones reground to your spec (within reason, obviously extra lift isn't possible)
On the standard lifters, you can use the following cams
246/240 9.4/9.25mm
248/248 10/10mm
252/252 9.45/9.45mm
272/272 8.9/8.9mm
281/281 10/10mm
Broster ran 288s on standard lifters with no problems.
I'm not sure about issues with lift with those cams, as I'm not familiar with the 1800s, but I'd say you'd get away with something similar to an X16XE.
Call us for prices BTW

thanks for that, i thought the max you could run on standard pistons was 268 degree cams?
i dont think you will beat kents price on a reprofile, going for 260 degree, £120 cash

The issue is the lift, not the duration.
Dave A was running long duration cams with a sensible lift, not sure of the exact specs, but say 270 degrees and 9mm lift, for example.
Off the shelf cams, 256/264 tends to be the most you can run without pocketed pistons.

just think il stick with the 260 degree cams,
anything more will run too close i think,
so you do custom reprofiles?

We can get cams reground to a spec to suit you, if there's enough metal on the lobes to do it.
For example, I sold a pair of cams for a 1.4 16v VW Polo engine today, to work best with TBs, you can't buy them off the shelf at all, but we had them reprofiled for the specific application.
Buying new billet cams isn't that expensive either. What would you expect to pay for a pair of off the shelf ones?

well i know there around £300-£400 for off the shelf
but when i can drop my cams around to kent cams, get them reprofiled for £120 i cant complain realy

So the moral of the story is, x16xe cams go into the z18xe

Theoretically, yes.

What lift value is the duration quoted at for the standard cams?

How is extra lift not possible? Just grind the base circle if there is enough material?

I have found from first hand experience that regrinds are not worth the savings in cash over billet blanks. They will wear out the lifters too quickly and you often wont see the gains that a cam ground from a blank will see due to various reasons.
I have never been 100% happy with off the shelf cams on most engines as there are som many varying factors that will need to be taken into consideration to get the correct cam.

last time i measured i got 240.9degree's and 8.4mm of lift.
tbh, you can go crazy with duration, but unless you have the peak lift there wont be many benefits. (ie 280+degree with 8mm lift etc)

From my measurements the valve is open for 270degrees (crank angle) with 8.45mm of lift. But cam duration is quoted at a certain lift value - i.e from the point of 0.1mm of lift the duration is 234 degrees.

The standard cams are 241 degrees, and 8.45mm lift, so Csweatherston, that was a very accurate measurement

That duration figure means bugger all unless you state what lift value you are quoting from.

i measured mine from 1mm of lift to 1mm before close.
my current cams give me 9.4mm peak lift

You are measuring your camshafts completely wrong.
Have a look at what cam manufacturers quote duration at. Even then it is still not perfect as it doesn't describe the profile to any great extent.
