What is the most common thing to cause a corsa sport engine to tap ( X14XE )
On startup it sounds like a loud injector, when driving it sounds like a tappet ?
Was thinking hydraulic lifters may need replacing ?
Just wondering on other peoples experience what to check

checked the oil level earlier, was just under max, i was also thinking doing an oil change just for piece of mind.
Are tappets / hydraulic lifters hard to replace ?

When was the oil last changed?
I had bit of a rattle on start up from cold, changed the oil and filter and it sorted it out.

i only bought the car yesterday, by looks of the filter a year at least.
Its more of a tapping on startup then when i accelerate ( when idle ) it rattles.
It drives fine, pulls in all gears no nocks or bangs not losing any oil / water.

Why did you buy it if you knew it sounded broken?

Change the oil & filter, give her a good hard run and see if it quietens down.

Could of been a cheap car, could of saw potential and a possible easy fix. theres a few reason.
I would try a touch thicker oil if your not seeing much improvement tappets would be my next point of call.

If the oil filter looks old, I reckon a oil and filter change will sort it. Use the correct grade for that engine, a Semi-synthetic will do the job.
