Afternoon All,

Replacing the TV in the games room to something a bit bigger so i can have the LED LG TV that is there at the moment in my room to upgrade mine.

It will only be used to play the PS3/Xbox/Gamecube that is in there.

Choice of:

http://www.richersounds.com/product/lcd-tv/lg/42ld450/lg-42ld450

http://www.richersounds.com/product/plasma-tv/lg/42pj350/lg-42pj350

Thoughts? Really don't know what would be better?

I have that first LCD, and its awesome value for money... There was talk on some forums of panel monopoly and apparently not all come with an LG S-IPS panel - some come with lesser quality ones... You will have to google it for more information... Mine came with the LG S-IPS panel so i was happy! You can also apply a hack that allows you to watch divx/avi etc (even HD) through the USB port. Again google is ur friend!

except that will invalidate your warranty and if you have a problem with your set and see the firmware/software is altered your TV wont be repaired

No different to any other product, beit a car or TV. Although service/expert menu logs aren't always checked and plenty of people have returned TV under warranty whilst activating features (or doing firmware upgrades) under the service/expert menu.

tbh you could be pretty lucky, if you dont have a fault and no one every checked it then it would never be known, there was a big hoohaa about these units because technically LG could have easily allowed the software on the unit to play movies as standard but it was watered down as it is not the premium model.

Like any other manufacturer, it'll clearly state what voids the warranty. So nothing new there. But it's good to know that LG checks (no don't this already known on big forums like AVForums), however a lot of manufacturers don't

Dan - All depends on screen; certainly Panasonic plasmas are some of the best screens going (or a Pioneer Kuro but it'll either be old stock or second hand, either way it'll be silly money). If you HAVE to choose between those two, then the LCD is the better spec (ie: 1080 vs bodged 720). But i'd look at spending another £50/60 and get a Sony LCD as it'll offer the better picture for that price range.
