Looking to buy one unlocked, was going to go Apple and pay £510. Had a quick look on eBay and there's one going near me (so I could go and collect), it's sealed and advertised as an unlocked unwanted upgrade.
I mailed them to ask how it's unlocked if its an upgrade and they said that it's been done through vodaphone.
Couple of questions. Is this possible even though it's sealed? Will the phone be any different to an apple version, ie vodaphone branding when you turn it on? And finally, if the guy decides not to pay the contract anymore or claims on insurance for a new one, will it get blocked?

Normally locked when they come from the operator, that's the only difference though.
If he claimed the insurance with that IMEI it could be blocked yes.

So if he's called Voda they would have been able to unlock it for him?
If he claimed, I suppose he would get in trouble if if I called Voda and showed them a copy of the paypal reciept? Also, that would be my proof that he sold the phone to me, would they unlock it again in that case?
Wouldn't usually buy secondhand but he only wants £400 for it.

Networks aren't allowed to brand or pre-load anything onto iPhones.

Just your usual buyer stuff, can't really go wrong on Ebay if you play by the rules.

iPhones arent sold SIMfree anywhere other than somewhere in the UAE iirc (Possibly Dubai?) Due to no network subsidy the price is about £800.
If it's sealed and an unwanted upgrade it's locked.
I would just buy one from apple or a store with a receipt so you have a years warranty. IMO
