had a new water meter fitted today (didn't ask for it, they just came round and replaced everyones).
got in from work tonight and the water tank overflow pipe had water coming out of it (the water drops onto my conservatory roof).
this hasn't happened since last summer when we went away for 2 weeks so it seems weird it's happening when we are using a lot of water during the day, especially on a day when a guy changed the water meter.
coincedence? or could the water meter affect things like that?

Water meter shouldn't affect anything

meter just measures consumption - will have no effect on tank operation etc

very strange. iirc the stopcock? needs fixing but it's been like that for almost 2 years and only when we left the house for more than 3 days at a time it would leak.
very odd that the day some guy came to mess around with the water, it's completely broken.
easy to replace? i know nothing whatsoever about plumbing. my water tank is in the loft and it's boarded out so easy to get access to it.

Tank in the loft has a ball cran same as your toilet has. Probably the diaphragm inside that needing replaced.
You can adjust it so the water cuts off earlier, might help.
That's a guess though, I know nothing about plumbing either.

If there is water coming out of the overflow pipe, then i would guess that the floaty ball valve in the tank isnt working as it should, and letting the tank fill up and overflow.
Unrelated to the water company fitting a meter imho.
Not a plumber, but work for a water company

It will take 2 secs to fix that. Easiest way is to just bend the rod the float is on.

It will if the valve is fine but the float is set at the wrong height.

Weirdly it wasn't overflowing yesterday night after work or today.
I left the bathroom tap on for about 20 minutes yesterday morning and we've used the shower about 3 times since, so unsure why it decided to go mental on that one day when the guy turned my water off and on.

Get it sorted though. You will be sick as a dog if you go on holiday or something and it starts again. Fuck that on a meter!

That
If the valve is fine then set it at the correct level using the adjustment on the ball arm.
Bens has passed twice on its own so its obviously worn. a new one is a 5er and ten mins to replace.
Bending the arm is a bodge. be right when it does fuck up all together and the tank starts to overflow propperly

its exactly the same, just an arm with a ball on it, turn the water off. open all your cold taps to drain the water main, then get the spanners out
