Got an iPhone, backup has cleared the camera roll, was thinking about doing data recovery on the memory to get it back.
Nothing in iTunes, iCloud etc. Just the phone and no real connection to it. Can get new pics using Scanner and Camera wizard on the PC but no access to older stuff and no way to run GetDataBack etc. via that.

Looks like the phone needs to be jailbroken, which it currently isn't and I don't fancy changing anything on the phone in case I introduce some other side effects.

Nothing on the app store that can do it? Alll them GetMyDataBack apps might not work because it needs to be FAT32/NTFS no?

Can't remember the last time I used iTunes.
Either way, the only way to access the root of an iPhone is by Jailbreaking it and getting SSH access. Not sure you'd get a drive letter out of it automatically as it's a Unix operating system, but you could mount it at least.

Ian will love SSH
Apple seems to have most things spot on license wise. If you don't buy from them, basically bugger off.

Ian,
You really won't get very far trying to get pictures back.
Do you have an iTunes backup that would contain the pictures?
This is bread and butter stuff so give me a call is you want. Happy to send number in U2U if you want any help.

I did this as a challenge on a 3GS. Work lass gave me her old 3GS and I said about how many dicky photos she's probs taken on it - she said ahhh but I have removed them all - she didn't believe I could pull them back....
Jailbroke it and did a full nand dump - used Photorec to sweep the file and pulled some entertaining photos back
Process I used:
