HMRC screwed up my tax code when I changed jobs and I was overpaying tax by £300 per month for 4 months. They admitted their mistake and corrected it, which has since been reflected in my payslips.

So I'm 100% sure I'm entitled to a rebate, but do I have to wait until the end of the tax year or can I ask for it now?

I would call them but last time I was on hold for ages

Not sure on the rebate side of things but re contacting HMRC put whichever 0845 number you usually use into say no to 0870, www.saynoto0870.co.uk . The local alternative is usually answered straight away.

If you overpay then you will have to wait until April to get your rebate (I'm no expert but this has happened to me in the past and that was what the outcome of it all was).

You can ask for it whenever you like, but be ready for being on hold for hours.

I got overtaxed on my bonus last year - was a nice 1200quid cheque when it finally came through.
