I need to change the piston rings and so while im at it and have the engine in bits im thinkin of doin a mini overhaul on the engine. Im goin to change the bearing shells while im at it and re-grind in the valves etc, but the engines been making a very loud ticking noise recently like the tappets are nackered, do you rekon its worth me changing them aswell while im at it, cos it sounds like a ford CVH engine when im driving down the road at the moment!
and also is there anythn else that anyone recommends I check while the engines in bits?
cheers,
jon

are u looking to mod the engine in the future?
if so get it fully rebuilt (as below), lightened and balanced bottom end and flywheel,
arp rod bolts. gas flowed head.
if not, just replace bearings, valve stem seals, piston rings, crank oil seals, cam shaft seals, head gasket, and maybe oil and water pump.
