roughly what percentage increase are you likely to expect on your insurance sum when modifying it! i know this is hard to tell but just a rough estimate!
mods would be wheels, exhaust system, lights all round, air filter, lowered, tints, colour coded, 4-2-1 manifold! say the quote sum was £650 as standard what would it be when all this has been done?

Could be anything to be honest - depends on the insurance company.

Mainstream insurance companies will cost more than say Adrian Flux or Brentacre. Being a CorsaSport premium member you also get discount with Adrian Flux

I'm insured with Zurich but don't have any mods. Although I did ring up asking if a badgeless grill, smoked headlights and smoked side repeaters would make a difference to the premium, the said no. They said if you had an accident and wanted them replacing, they'll need to be declared. If they aren't declared, it'll be rebuilt to manufacturer standard.

A lot of people are insured with Adrian Flux and Brentacre like I mentioned

so its optional to declare your mods then, i thought you had to in order to make your insurance valid! otherwise if you crashed and they werent declared you wouldnt be able to claim!

You HAVE to declare performance modifications.

You HAVE to declare ALL modifications actually.

I was insured with Tesco, they were fine, charged something like £10 per mod, then £200 for the engine change.

Then for the Nova, I didn't have to pay extra for anything

This Corsa, I've had to pay £20 extra for everything.

I'm with NFU, and all they want to know about is engine modifications. Anything that improves the cars performance. At the end of the day, if you hit someone, and you car is 'tunned' they will rape you. However if you have a de-badged grill there hardly going to point the finger at that.

Im with hyperformance (through insureyourmotor.com or something) they didnt charge me any extra for my mods, just required a letter from an independant engineer or a garage saying there was sufficient clearance, and that the car was roadworthy.

I intend to stick the 1.6 lump back in in the summer, when my policy is due for renewal, probs go as named driver on my parents policy then for a while

Id forget it tbh mate, modding your car is an excuse for insurance companies to rob you! They are complete tossers when it comes to modding cars, my mate pays an additional 100 pounds on his premium after declaring his induction kit on his 1.2 16v clio, absolute joke!

I think it is the insurance companies discretion - like I said, Zurich only wanted it declared if I wanted it replaced. Chances of me having a crash where I actually need to claim for the cost of the repair, my car will be a write off anyway. Plus the stupid young drivers excess.

Jay, try this link. It searches through a lot of companies and will give you an idea on price. Once you've found a cheap one ring them up and see about mods.

All I did was used that for a price and then called them about the mods. Some were reasonable, some weren't.

I have a claim on my insurance (10K) and have a mildly tuned 1.6. Highway is the cheapest i've found.
