The phone its self is brand new, so im hoping to unlock it so i can use it with my Vodafone Contract sim. Ive purchased Cydia from iphoneunlocking.com. All is well. But my iPhone wont connect to the internet to install the yellowsn0w software. Im confused as to what im going to do now?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - James

^^ well you've been had since Cydia is a free program from http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
Also, Cydia has nothing to do with unlocking your phone. You will need to download "Yellowsn0w" from the website above, which is the unlock.
It will point you in the official download links which I think are located on the piratebay.
What ever you paid, you've been scammed by them

Then your out of luck. By updating to the 2.2.1 you have updated the baseband and so far is it NOT possible to unlock the 02.30.03 baseband firmware.
When you update to 2.2.1 you need to use a patched firmware which retains the original baseband firmware which can then be unlocked.
Sorry

Yeah tom. Its a brand new iPhone 3G 8GB. I paid £300 for it from somebody local.
As far as unlocking it goes. The only reason i cant atm is because i cant get in the net on it with a o2 Pay&go sim. Ive got 'Cydia' on my phone which has the jailbreak and unlocking software on it, but i have to connect to the internet on it to install them.
Edit - So i was hoping to go into McDonalds and use the WiFi to install them. But if what Rob says is right, then i cant

You CANNOT unlock your phone so use it on other networks i'm afraid. Sucks but always check the baseband level before buying a phone second hand if you are wanting to unlock it
Cydia is nothing to do with operator unlocks. Its to do with running non-authorised apps on the iphone i.e. jailbreaking

I would try the Turbo Sim, as your out of luck.
Forget about wireless as its nothing to do with what you want to achieve.
IMO, your better off getting an o2 contract because of the free Data use.
Once you realise the phone is all about the internet, you will soon see the light

chances are james already has unlimited data on his voda contract, like myself.
You'd be foolish to get an iphone without unlimited data

Let me know pls James. Not sure how im going to go about getting an iPhone yet as all the tariffs available on o2 are poop. Minutes are fine but the 500 texts is no good. Whack on the unlimited bolt on and its over £50 a month :\

£20 a month simplicity tariff tomtom, 1000 texts, 600 mins, unlimited data. Then just buy the phone elsewhere.
