My corsa sounds like it is chugging, making a sort of tapping sound. The sound is in time with the engine revs, and it has been like it since i got it. It has only done 40k.
Is this just because its a 3 cylinder or is something wrong?
cheers

Yep, i had one for 4 years and for 3.9 of those years it made that sound. I was told it was the timing chain and not worth fixing as it will just go again... I believe i was quoted £300-£400 but im not sure. Its nothing to worry about.

It could also be the exhaust manifold is cracked, mine is cracked and makes that noise, only does it when it warm though, no point replacing though because it will just crack again..

yeah ive had 2 of them now and both made the same sound.

apparently its because these engines were only designed to be a little town run around and good for 50,000 so around that sort of milage you start to hear the little hamsters being threw about inside the engine

although both of my 12volts ended up with over 90k on them

Mine sounds like that too Could do with an oil top up/change but it sounded exactly the same when the oil was full.

mine rattled more than a smackhead and sounded like a diesel

it was still running when i got rid of it on 100,000miles
