Possibly got a server box in mind but it only has one PCI slot, and two IDE ports on board.

Ideally I would like a cheap, small harddrive for the OS, and a massive drive for data (1TB preferrably). Looking on savastore the biggest IDE drive is only 500GB whereas SATA 2 goes a lot bigger, and can easily get me 1TB for only a little more cost.

The PCI will need to be used for a wireless card so can't be used for a regular controller.

Is there such as a thing as a direct IDE to SATA 2 cable? ie. that will plug into the IDE port but allow me to use a SATA 2 drive?
I found this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/IDE-SATA-Bi-Directional-Adapter/dp/B000YSMBSW - but thats only SATA 1.

why not just use the pci for a sata controller and use usb for wireless, or hardwire it?

It can only run at IDE speeds anyway so doesn't matter if its SATA 1 or 2.

So an SATA2 will run through a SATA1 controller ok?

If so I'll just go for this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/MY-Link-Ultra-Converter-Adapter-motherboard/dp/B000LU48UC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247494969&sr=1-2

I wanted to use the PCI wireless as I already have one spare and it will save me buying a USB one

SATA 2 is just faster, backwards compatible so it'll work fine.
