Go to www.crucial.com and run their scanner, it will tell you what type of RAM you have.

As for the hard drive, it will be a 2.5" one, all you need to know is what bus it uses, my money is on SATA. Download Everest Home Edition from www.majorgeeks.com and it will tell you in there.

Make sure your laptop can support over 2 GB of ram.

When you run the Crucial scanner, it should tell you what the maximum is. Or will usually tell you in the specs at the back of the manual.

If your running normal 32 bit windows you can only address 3.5GB of RAM so no point getting 4GB.

If its 32bit then you can put 4GB physically in and it will run fine. But it will only be able to address up to 3.5GB of it.

No 3.5Gb is not a hard limit of 32bit. It depends on your configuration and O/S. We have several PCs and servers using 32bit with 4Gb RAM, they amount of RAM they can use is different on each and varies between 3.6Gb and 3.8Gb.

So for the cost of 3Gb (which would only use 1 pair in dual channel and one singular) against 4Gb (2 pairs utilising dual channel) you may as well get 4Gb, as it'd cost no more than £40.

ENB is right there

It depends on how much memory the graphics card has and also if memory serves how big the virtual memory is. Because a 32bit OS can only address 4GB, if the graphics card has 512MB then Windows will "see" 3.5GB of the system RAM that is installed.
