Anyone got anything good, preferably to replace incandescent bulbs but also 'mood' lighting.
I've looked before and had a look again this afternoon but reviews are very subjective.
I've got somewhere to test with 3 GU10's but currently decorating the bedroom, have access above and below until it's finished so could fit something else.
I've got IKEA dioder strips and remote control colour changing led strips but looking for more useful than novel.
Nothing stupidly expensive either, £10+ a bulb is quite a hit when doing a few.

Like that Craig but how is wired please?
If its via a plug is there any other way to install them as would like some behind the TV so would like to turn them off rather than by socket

12v plug somewhere I'm guessing.
I've ordered a 5w 400 lumen GU10 LED bulb to test.

Where they going in celing? I'd recommend an mr16 in corners of room and gu10 in middle , put mr16 led in corners they are good for mood lighting . Then standard gu10 in middle . You will need to change switching so one does external mr16 and other gu10 . Mr16 are a smaller version of a gu10 about size of a £2 coin

Mr16 are just gu10 that require a transformer to step down to 12v, you need a different driver for them anyway.
Probably will be ceiling unless I can come up with a good idea that's not really tacky.

Gu4 even . Also don't know if you've seen them but I fitted some in a loft conversion , led bulb , with two signal wires which interlink , you can switch them via remote to any colour . Look good and be good maybe in this case . Think I paid about 25 each .

Baza, think you mean MR11 lamps.
I wouldnt be putting 230v halogens and 12v halogens in the same room, imo it just wouldnt look right.
John, if your after a decent LED gu10 lamp you will have to pay good money for them, I use the Kosnic 5w warm white, they give off a nice colour and can be had for around £9 per lamp + vat. Anything less than that will either give off an unusable light level or will last five minutes. I wouldnt even consider the shite on ebay from china etc..
We have just got some new ones in for a job so ill let you know what theyre like once installed, claim to have a better lumen/watt figure so looks good, also 2 year guarantee.

It's a cheap china one I've ordered to test, well when I say cheap it was still 6 quid. From deal extreme, supposed to be 400+lumens.
Done a load of googling on it but most reviews seem to be very subjective.
If this one is really rubbish I'll buy a 'brand name' version.
Any reports on ones you've fitted would be good.

Used the Kosnics at work and have also fitted then in my own house. In my opinion theyre the best ive come across so far. Ive not seen an LED lamp that gives off the same brightness, spread of light and colour as a halogen but when you compare 5w LED to 50w halogen its certainly worth the small sacrifice.

Deal extreme have been at it lately so just got this bulb through today.
Impressed tbh, at least as bright as a 50w halogen, I'd say brighter.
It's nowhere near as yellow as the halogens but not as cold white as you'd expect from a normal white led.
I've got a remote dimmer switch, it doesn't dim but it goes on and off, which I was worried about, some of them don't work with dimmers at all.
Colours in this picture are miles off from reality but you can see the brightness and that there is a difference.
I'll make sure this doesn't blow up tomorrow then get more I think.
It's much bigger than a normal halogen btw, have to make sure your light fittings can accommodate it.

Was on for about half an hour in total, it's not a light that gets left on.
Didn't have time to investigate properly, will check over the weekend.

The trouble with LED lighting is that it's only starting to grow and most of the stuff is coming from small outfits in China and really unreliable.
There's overheating issues and shit.
When you calculate the savings with what it costs to buy it's not worth it at the moment, imo.

Had some amazon vouchers I didn't know what to do with so ordered a 4w Philips GU10 to try in the kitchen. Amazing that it should replace a 50w bulb.
Figured it was a 'free' way to give led a go!

Let us know how you get on, Phillips should be a lot better quality.
The one was easily equal to a 50w halogen.

We've just used some philips LED lamps on a job in a school, specced by council, £24 a lamp and theyre utter shite. Poor spread of light and very dim looking. Will be replacing with something else.
