Had bt infinity installed a couple of weeks ago and getting 38mb on speedtest.net
If i download something though i only get about 3-4mb max from newsgroups and 1-2mb downloading from websites. Is this normal or is there something that i can do so it's faster

Sounds about right.

38mb is going to be 4.75MB max so if you are seeing 4 at times then I would be fairly happy.
torrents are dependent on too many things and should not be used to judge speeds. They are also often throttled.

Best way i'v always worked it out its your internet speed e.g. 38 and divide it by 8 to get your file download speed =4.75. Mines 80 and my nzb's download at 10mbs.
