Basically my brother has been fucking about with my laptop.
Now when I turn it on, it comes up with a black screen and asks for a password. I know what the password is and can start the laptop no problem but does anyone know how to remove this password? I've tried the change it to nothing but it's hasn't changed properly and is still asking me for it and I can't find any option to turn it off.

Control Panel > User Accounts I think it is (sorry I currently don't have a Windows PC here to check).

Oh yes I completely forgot about that! I should not be replying to threads like this late at night when I've been up for 16 hours already

If it is a BIOS password (literally as soon as you turn the computer on?) then put the password in then hammer the Del and / or F2 keys until you get in to the BIOS and find the setting to remove the password. Dont fuck about with any other settings in there though

Best way around it is to remove the CMOS battery and reset the BIOS.
Bit involved on a laptop, bit of disassembly required

Or go and find said brother and punch him repeatedly in the face until he tells you the password

Cheers guys. I had a play with the settings and tried to disable it but it doesn't seem to be working. It doesn't get much use anyway, so I'll just live with it.
