So at what point can we craft new weapons? Starting to do my head in with a lead pipe/wrench and wood with nails in.

Can't craft new weapons as far as I know, but you'll find blueprints for rigging pipes with electricity etc.
As well as weapon upgrades, which feel a bit wasted once your weapon has worn out.
Look for the red chests that need to be lock picked. Usually on roof tops.
If you're not familiar with RPG colour codes, white, green, blue, purple and orange shows the rarity of a weapon/item from least to most rare.

 Big help. Yeah I feel cheated that your weapon wears out (I know that'd happen in real life eventually). As for picking locks I need some practise I broke 4 'pins' last night.

I bought about 80 lock picks at the start of the game which wiped out my cash but it turned out to be a good thing.
Weapon upgrades are a shit imo. Apart from ones that just increase damage.
I've got loads of them if You want nath, plus a couple of better weapons, including a gun, which is a must when fighting real guys.
Also, police vans with a hard/very hard lock pick tend to hold decent stuff. There is a few out on the blown bridge but there are too many virals to pick on your own. I'll jump in your game(s) and keep them at bay while you pick

Also, I still tend to break a few picks with the hard locks even now. Only tip is to just tap the r3 stick lightly and not let it vibrate much while your trying to find the right angle.

Lock picks can also be crafted from metal parts, which I so far seem to have in abundance.

Just did a couple. It's not impossible to clear the area. Does take quite a few lock pins to get through the lock though.
All I received were two mediocre hammers...

Not sure. Was near the enemy base as I was going there for a mission.
Actually the one you opened yesterday only had a hammer as well.
Could possibly be that their content is dependent on current progress level.

Ive got it to. When can i get a gun? Anywhere i can get one? Enjoying it so far love saving guys from zombie attacks and then they start helping you and give you cash. Anyways to kill the night time super fast zombies i know they dont like UV light. Whats the best weapon for the big guys with giant hammers?

I've got guns if you want one but limited use really.
I've noticed it's a bit buggy Alex, after I went back on after playing you the loading screen was the dialog from 95% through the game. Shame though as it's the only thing that let's it Down
