Now I've never had a router that has 2 different signals before. Current one seems to. If I connect to 2.4ghz on wifi it runs at only 23-35mb/sec

5ghz runs way faster.

Why and what is the difference?

If you can then connect via Ethernet eg wire, things like tv, PS4, or if your me a home antenna for three lol. They are all 5g,

But wireless threw 5g is more less impossible as doesn't reach far at all! in that case use 2g

Your laptop doesn't have a 5.0 GHz compatible network card then.
