Looking to by a PS3 for a media centre, the seller is offering the serial number to prospective buyers, is there any particular reason you would need this?
Can it be checked online to see if it has been sent to Sony for repair etc? or is it a trivial thing?
Thanks

This one is cheaper than the shops, and it comes with some games. A guy at work mentioned that the serial number could be used to find out what region it is from i.e PAL or another 1.

Possbily due to the recent talk about PS3 jailbreaks, and consoles being banned from the PSNetwork?
Is there a way of checking with Sony if the console's been banned? (remember when all the Xbox's were getting banned?)
