either a idle air control valve (bastard to remove) or possible air leak, can you hear air rushing around the inlet?

i would probly say idle air control valve, does it rev up and down?since you seed flat spots, the mass air flow meter are a common fault, a faulty one will cause flat spots. Do you no howe to remove the iac to clean (fiddly job, approx 1 hour for 1st time)?

spray some brake cleaner around the inlet/were the tb is and if it revs up you have a air leak

check the inlet pipe that goes to the throttle body, sometimes splits causing high revving on idle, either that or icv or even further afield poss inlet manifold gasket leakage.

it does sound like a IAC valve, but that wouldn't cause flat spots, poss mass airflow meter, or at worse ECU!i recommend getting a second opinion fro vaux-tech
