phone line and power mate.

Can affect any number of things, but most commonly, routers, PC power supplies, motherboards, modems.

Most decent SP will have protection for the lot:

Line In & Out

I run my whole system on a UPS and dont bother with phone line protection. For the sake of a £40 router, the chances are getting hit are slim.

routers are fairly fragile against power surges, if you have trouble do what this lot are saying, surge protect
