We have shit loads of old pitch pine doors that we want stripped. We've done it by hand in the past but just in the hall alone we have 11 doors (+facings + staircase +skirtings).... it'll take forever!

Has anyone had doors dipped in the past? Did they come back in good shape or were they swollen and distorted?

Pretty much every door I've ever seen after being dipped is a bit of a mess.

Wonder whether it strips the glue out as well as the joints always seem to open up after dipping.

Have you looked at getting them blasted. Had a couple of doors done in a old barn conversion came out well. Can't remember about prices though.

Plastic media won't damage the door. My mate who runs Solway Blast Cleaning use it and doesn't damage anything.

all depends on if they have ever been dipped in the past mate? if they have then they will end up total furry like a rug and thats not an understatment. and there is a risk they will split and glue will also be removed when dipped

Adam, I had some 1930's doors dipped. The paint was so thick you could no longer see any detailing.

The lock was also covered thick in paint.

First impressions were that they looked amazing, all the paint off, even on the locks.

However on closer inspection the doors were very 'furry' in places, and the glue in parts kept leaking. They also changed slightly in size.

They needed work to look good, but with time it can be done, if you have loads you might find it very time consuming.
