Strange topic for a car site but its an automotive based engine which is marinised for boat use.

The air box is full of oil, we've lost approximately 1litre in just under 10 hours running time; the paper filter looks like its done 1000 hours not 10; its sodden with clean/fresh oil and the airbox base is flooded with oil.

The engine is essentially a Volvo truck engine 5.5litre turbocharged 6 cylinder 330hp diesel engine.

We're going down the route of either excess oil from crankcase breather or gasket falure from the turbo although the first is the apparent cause.

Any opinions or ideas or experience?

oil in the airbox can only be from a crankcase breather surely?

thats what we thought; but Volvo have said it "could" be from the turbo seals; I'm no expert hence asking the question; they also said it could b from overfilling with oil; however the oil level is perfect.

Any ideas on why we'd have so much coming through - its a brand new engine btw
